The International Association for Impact Assessment (IAIA) is hosting its 44th Annual Conference from May 1-4, 2025, at the Bologna Congress Center in Italy. This year’s theme, “Impact Assessment in the Age of Artificial Intelligence,” aims to explore how AI technologies can enhance development decisions and address emerging challenges in the field. The conference will feature over 100 technical sessions, covering topics such as social impact assessment, biodiversity, climate change, Indigenous peoples, and public participation. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with international experts, share best practices, and discuss innovative solutions to contemporary environmental and social issues.
For Australian environmental professionals, several sessions at IAIA25 are particularly pertinent. Sessions focusing on biodiversity and climate change will provide insights into preserving Australia’s unique ecosystems and addressing environmental challenges. Discussions on Indigenous peoples and public participation are crucial for understanding and integrating Indigenous knowledge and community engagement into environmental assessments. Additionally, sessions on social impact assessment will offer strategies to evaluate and mitigate the social implications of development projects within Australian communities. Participating in these sessions will equip attendees with practical knowledge and tools applicable to the Australian context, fostering sustainable development and environmental stewardship.
